Sometimes, we may want to use the internet connection in our laptop in our mobile phone using Wifi. It is not so direct to create a wifi hotspot in Microsoft Windows. Latest Windows 8.1 dont even have the option to create ad-hoc wireless networks. So, many of us will prefer third party softwares like mhotspot and connectify. Of course, the softwares are pretty good. They do what they offer. But we can simply create Wifi hotspot using any Windows using some lines of code.
Please note we must have a wifi adaptor in our system to make this working.
First of all, we need to open the command prompt with administrative privileges. To simply do that, press the windows button, search for ‘cmd’. Right click on the result and click on “Run as administrator”
Now we have the command prompt with administrative privileges.
Here, as an example, I am going to create a Wifi hotspot with the name “hotspot”. The password will be “techbeats.in” .
Inside the Command Prompt window, type the following command:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=hotspot key=techbeats.in
Optionally, you may change the SSID and password of your wish by editing the above command.
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
The virtual wireless adapter is now started and shown in the Network and Sharing Center.
Now we can connect to this wireless network. But this wifi network wont have any internet connectivity now. We have to share internet from any of our available sources like LAN or even using another wifi network.
Look the above image, the new virtual adaptor “hotspot 2” have no internet connectivity now.
To share internet connection from any available adaptor, right click on the adaptor, on properties Click on properties button. On the sharing tab, click on “allow other network users to connect through this computer”. Thats all. Now the newly created hotspot have internet connectivity.
