How to download torrents directly in browser

Many of us are crazy about downloading things if we get free internet 🙂 Remembering the last few months by which we were offered unlimited 4G data from Jio. Majority are preferring torrents to download movies, software etc. But the drawback with torrents is that the download speed depends on availability of seeds/peers and speed throttling by ISPs. Also, we need to waste data for uploading while you are downloading a torrent (seeders pardon me 😉 ) .

There is a solution for this. There are many websites which allows to cache(locally store on their servers) the torrent contents and allows us to download the file in higher speeds that too with pause/resume capability. I have checked most of the popular sites who helps to cache torrents like Seedr, Zbigs, bytebx, boxopus etc. Many of them are paid and free accounts have speed/storage restrictions. After trying all of the above, I find Seedr more interesting and convenient for people who loves to get things for free like me 🙂 Let me brief a bit about how Seedr works.

  • Open Seedr Website and land to its homepage.
  • Sign up for an account either using email or Facebook login.
  • You will be getting free tier account.
  • There will be option in the website to either paste the torrent url or to upload torrent file.
  • It will take just some minutes to cache file depends on file size. It took few seconds for me to cache a 2 GB file.
  • After caching is completed, you can download the file using browser or any other clients such as IDM for better download speeds.
  • Enjoy the amazing downlod speeds.

With a free tier, you will get

  • 2GB of free storage + more space for inviting friends
  • Unlimited bandwidth, video playback support, high-speed downloads
  • 1 parallel torrent download and 1:1 seeding ratio on public trackers

You can simply invite your friends and earn free space . Since the bandwidth is unlimited, we can remove the files after download to keep running. Premium account is also awesome if you are willing to pay. Premium accounts starts from 30 GB to 1TB of storage also with multiple caching locations.

Send music over Whatsapp in iPhone without jailbreak

It has been a long time since I posted something here. becoming too lazy nowadays 😀

This time, I am writing this for iOS users. My first iOS post here. Its about sending music files from music library over whatsapp in iOS devices.

Whatsapp in iOS wont allow us to send music files. It is really a weird situation when you want to send an interesting music track in your library to your friend and realizing whatsapp in iOS wont support this feature. But dont worry, we have a work around for this. You can find a lot of methods to do this over net like using google drive or by jailbreaking your device. But, I am writing here the best and simple way.

Let me introduce a powerful automation tool for iOS “Workflow”. It is not a free application. But is worth the money you pay.  Workflow allows users to create custom operations including “Open In”. With this app, you can create hundreds of another apps inside it.

For simply sending music from library to whatsapp, we are using a simple workflow. I have already created the custom workflow to select music from iPhone Music Library and share it on WhatsApp. You people can also create your own workflows for your own personal needs. I promise, its such a brilliant application.

    1. Download and install Workflow app from the App Store. It will costs around 250 INR. But worth the price.
    2. Open Custom workflow I have created on Safari browser and tap on “Get Workflow” link. The custom workflow will automatically get added in the WorkFlow app under “My Workflows”.
send music to whatsapp in iphone

3. Tap the play button to run the workflow

4. Here we go ! !, It will prompt you to select music track from library.

5. Select the track and it will be opened in whatsapp to forward.

How to add a shortcut to this workflow on Homescreen

I know its not a convenient way to open workflow all the time and run this for forwarding music. We can simply add a shortcut to this workflow on our homescreen.

  1. In the Workflow app, tap on “ Share Music” from My Workflows section.
  2. Tap on the Share icon on the top left corner and choose Add to Home Screen from the Extensions menu (bottom row).
  3. You will be redirected to a webpage in Safari, where you need to select Share icon >> Add to Home Screen.
  4. Finally, tap on Add in the top right corner.

The workflow should now get added as a shortcut on your iPhone Home Screen. From now on, every time you want to share an MP3 on WhatsApp, all you need to do is to launch the custom workflow from the Home Screen.sendmusic workflow in homescreen

Tail end

Dont hesitate as Workflow is a paid app. It is worth the money as you can use hundreds of another workflows which are equal to many other paid apps in itunes store. Just try this website , which consists of an unofficial collection of workflows which are created by various users worldwide.

Boost Moto G / Moto X speed after long run use or lollipop update

Majority of the Moto G users, (both 1st and 2nd gen) are facing a common issue nowadays. One of the most popular budget phone Moto G which was very much responsive and fast is now acting as too much laggy after long run usage. Some claiming the device has became laggy after the Lollipop update. I too own a Moto G 1st gen and faced the same issue. I have did a factory reset after the Lollipop update and that fixed the issue to an extent. But, it became laggy again after using the device for some weeks. Resetting the device all the time is not a feasible solution. So, I started researching for some solution to boost up my device.

How do I clear Cache Partition on my device?

This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings. Here, I am explaining methods for both Lollipop and Kitkat Android versions however both methods are almost same.

Lollipop Steps

1. Ensure the device is powered off, and unplugged

2. Press and hold the Volume Down button and Power button (located on the right edge of the device) for approximately 3 seconds then release.

3. From the “Boot Mode Selection Menu” screen, select Recovery.

Note: Use the Volume Down button to scroll through the menu options and the Volume Up button to select.

Now, After seeing Motorola splash page, you should get the dead Android as shown below.

clear_cache_partition_on_Moto_G_and_Moto_X_speedup motog

4. From the “No Command” screen (Android figure lying on his back), press and hold the Power button then press and release theVolume Up button to display the menu options.

5. Select “wipe cache partition”.

Note: Use the Volume buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.

6. “Reboot system now” will be highlighted, press the Power button to select it.

Note: Allow several minutes for the reboot process to complete. For me, it took about 8 minutes. Dont interrupt while this is being done.

KitKat Steps

With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select

clear_cache_partition_on_Moto_G_and_Moto_XThe device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)

clear_cache_partition_on_Moto_G_and_Moto_X_speedup motog
Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key.  You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on this step, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.

  • Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option
The device will then perform the partition wipe

The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence.

Feel free to ask questions if you are confused in some step.

Running android applications in Google chrome browser

Yes. I have written regarding this before. But this time there is a change. We can simply run android APKs using a google chrome browser . No matter what the Operating system is. Windows, Linux, Mac , everything will work.

Personally, I have felt it took a bit long time to load APKs using Bluestacks player, the one we used to load android apps in PC before. It works for windows only. As a linux enthuasiast, I was searching for a best method to do the same in Linux platform. Although there are many other apps providing the ability to run Android apps in PC, I found this one interesting.

All we need is the following

    • ARC Welder Chrome extension,
    • a computer running the latest version of Chrome
    • Android application package (APK) for the program you want to run.

Download ARC welder app for google chrome from google webstore

android on google chrome

Open the app and set a working directory. You can select any directory you wish to keep temporary files. For eg, My documents.

You can figure out the rest simply. All we need now is to download the APK of the android apps to run via google chrome. That can be simply downloaded from play store itself. Refer my old post regarding this here

Download software from “Google Play” without mobile phone and google account

There are certain situations when we need to download the APK of some softwares from Play store. For eg, while using Bluestacks player, Youwave player. etc which enabled android operations in PC, it is more convenient to deal with the APK if it is available. Usually, we download the app in our mobile device and took backup of those with some third party softwares. Another situation is incompatibility. Your phone might not support some software in Play store. But you are pretty sure that it will run fine on your device even with some lags.

In all the above conditions, the best option is to download the APK (insaller file) of softwares. Yes. We can do this and that too without a google account. Sounds good . right?, a website which provides this service free of cost. We just need to paste the url of the particular software we want to download as APK in the website and it will return us the download link.

Lets look an example. I am planning to download the instagram application’s APK. Follow the below steps.

1. Go to

2. Search for the application to download (here it is instagram)

3. After finding the app, copy the url from the browser, the url I got for instagram is

download apk from play store

4. Now go to Evozi website

5. Paste the Package name or Google Play URL

6. Click on “Generate download link”

Now you can see a download button as in the following screenshot

apk download from evozi

7. Now, you can see an option to download. Click on that to download the APK.

Feel free to comment if you got stuck somewhere.

How to create a Wifi Hotspot in Windows 7 or 8 without any thirdparty software

Sometimes, we may want to use the internet connection in our laptop in our mobile phone using Wifi. It is not so direct to create a wifi hotspot in Microsoft Windows. Latest Windows 8.1 dont even have the option to create ad-hoc wireless networks. So, many of us will prefer third party softwares like mhotspot and connectify. Of course, the softwares are pretty good. They do what they offer. But we can simply create Wifi hotspot using any Windows using some lines of code.

Please note we must have a wifi adaptor in our system to make this working.

First of all, we need to open the command prompt with administrative privileges. To simply do that, press the windows button, search for ‘cmd’. Right click on the result and click on “Run as administrator”

Now we have the command prompt with administrative privileges.

Here, as an example, I am going to create a Wifi hotspot with the name “hotspot”. The password will be “” .

Inside the Command Prompt window, type the following command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=hotspot

Optionally, you may change the SSID and password of your wish by editing the  above command.

laptop as wifi hotspot
Now we have to start the virtual adaptor by using the following command

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

The virtual wireless adapter is now started and shown in the Network and Sharing Center.

virtualwifi adaptor1

Now we can connect to this wireless network. But this wifi network wont have any internet connectivity now. We have to share internet from any of our available sources like LAN or even using another wifi network.

virtualwifi adaptor

Look the above image, the new virtual adaptor “hotspot 2” have no internet connectivity now.

To share internet connection from any available adaptor, right click on the adaptor, on properties Click on properties button. On the sharing tab, click on “allow other network users to connect through this computer”. Thats all. Now the newly created hotspot have internet connectivity.

How to remove ‘read tickmarks’ on whatsapp (android)

Recently. Whatsapp introduced a new feature to check whether our chatting partner have read our message or with a blue tick indication. This is a nice feature however majority of the Whatsapp users are unhappy with this update. Sometimes, I have even felt that this indication is not 100 % accurate and is spoiling relations. The upcoming whatsapp version will be coming with an option to disable this. We can download the beta version (WhatsApp 2.11.44 version) before the official release in play store from Whatsapp website.

UPDATE  : Now all whatsapp versions have option to disable read receipts by default.

How to disable the read receipts

After installing the APK, Go Settings–>Account—>Privacy

Untick “Read receipts”. Thats it. Please note , If you turn off read receipts, you wont be able to see read receipts from other people. Read receipts are always sent for group chats.

Watch security camera streams online with Google

Many of the security cameras in the world are connected to internet for global access. Majority of the people are not concerned about the google bot which fetch the camera links into its database. We can simply use some search queries to watch security cameras online.

Out of which many are PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) cameras.

Yes, we can simply pan, zoom or even tilt the cameras using the web interface. Some of them may be password protected. Never mind, just try another link. Many of the search results out there are of no password.

Try the following keywords in google searchbox

  • inurl:/view.shtml

Be aware that, your IP may be logged by the network admins of the respective cameras. Most of the admins will discard access of these links which are   open to public network  But sticking on a camera for a long time may catch attention.

How to unlock samsung android phone after too many pattern attempts or incorrect password

Many of the android users set pattern lock to lock their phone. But there are situations when the phone will get locked because of too many incorrect pattern attempts. Then we need the Google account credentials associated with the android device to unlock the phone. But many of the users didn’t even remember the Google account credentials which was provided when started the phone for the first time. There is also a situation when you did not associate a Google account at the first sign in and that option of regaining access to your device has failed.

We can simply reset/unlock the phone using Android’s built in recovery mode. However this hard reset will wipe the phone clean, so all data on the phones internal memory will be wiped. The contents of your memory card and  SIM card will however remain intact. This will not damage or affect the functionality of the device in any way.

  • Turn off your phone
  • Turn the phone on by pressing power button while holding the menu button and volume button. Dont forgot to release your finger from power button when the device begins to start but keep holding the other two keys

Unlock samsung galaxy

  •  Release your fingers from the buttons when you see the following recovery menu.

android recovery menu

  • Press Volume down to scroll and navigate the options and use Home button to confirm your selected option.
  • Navigate to Wipe data/factory reset first. Then select  “Yes – delete all users data” using the volume buttons and menu button.

menu to wipe data on android recovery menu

  •  Wipe the cache partition too exactly like we did for “data wipe”.
  • Press the Volume Up or Down to navigate to “Reboot system now” and use the Home button to confirm, and then wait until your device reboots.

Now your device is factory reset. Now dont forgot to set a google account for the device to avoid future resets 🙂

PS : This trick may not work on all the galaxy devices. I have tested this till galaxy s4 and found working.  Feel free to comment if you got stuck somewhere.

Thanks my friend Sachin Satheesh for giving me a topic to write 🙂

How to download youtube videos using VLC player

It is not a big deal to download youtube videos nowadays. Most of us are using some browser addons or softeares like IDM for downloading youtube videos. So, with this post, my aim is just to demonstrate that we can simply download any youtube videos using our favorite media player VLC player.  Most of us are using VLC player as just a media player and dont know other functions of VLC like streaming, webcam recording. etc.

  • Copy the youtube url of the video you want to download
  • Open vlc player and go to Media–>Open Network stream

download youtube video on vlc

  • Paste the youtube url there and press enter

Now you can see the video is being played on VLC. Here comes the trick.

Get free Missed call alerts on BSNL

get free bsnl missed call alert

I know this is an old service. But I am sure many of the users still dont know this free service offered by BSNL. While other operators are charging for this service, BSNL is giving it absolutely free. This service helps you to find out who called you while you were unreachable.

You can activate the service in two ways.

Using Phone Menu

Just divert  your calls to +9117010. Most probably divert option will be the call settings menu. Select Divert when unreachable or a similar menu.

Using USSD call

This method is more simple. Actually this USSD code also execute the same thing that we did in the first method.

Dial **62*+9117010# from your BSNL mobile.

How to check balance of any BSNL number

Hi friends,

I am back with another cool trick. Yes, this trick will help you to check balance of any BSNL mobile number. Cool. isnt it ? 🙂

We can get this by two methods.

  • Using internet and without any BSNL sim card
  • Using SMS with a BSNL sim card.

Using internet and without any BSNL sim card

  • Go to this page. Then you will get a screen like this.

bsnl recharge screen

  • Enter the BSNL mobile number you want to check balance in the first two fields.
  • In the email field, you can use anything in format [email protected] since it is not going to be validated. select type
  • Select General topup from the menu.
  • Select any amount,. For eg; 55 Rs
  • On the next screen, you can see the balance and validity of the mobile number.

bsnl balance

Using BSNL Simcard

A small drawback of this trick is that, we must have internet access to check all these right. But consider a scenario we dont have internet and we need to know balance of someone. Still, there is a solution. This method is widely used to check 3G balance of BSNL numbers also.

Just send an SMS  DATA3G<space><mobile number> to 53733

All you need is just a BSNL Sim card. You can use this trick for getting 3G balance also while you are using the sim card in a data card.

Fix Bsnl Broadband DNS Problems

Today, I had experienced some problems with my BSNL Broadband. That is, it took a long time to get connected to some websites and some loaded as it is. In facebook, none of the images were loading. After some googling, i came to know that the problem was with the bsnl DNS (Domain Name Server) which points domains to corresponding IP Addresses.

I found an easy solution, you just need to change your DNS settings and use an external DNS server instead of your ISP’s.

Before you begin, you need to make sure that the problem is with DNS and not otherwise. To diagnose and rectify the DNS error follow the instructions below –

Try typing the IP of the website instead of the name. That is, type instead of and you should reach the Google website.

How to configure your network adapter ? (windows)

To configure your network adapter to use one set of the IP addresses listed above do the following –

  • Go to your Network Connection Properties window. And select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.

Now choose the option – Use the following DNS server addresses and then enter one set of the IP addresses as shown below

Now save and close everything. Your internet should behave normal now.

You may also try OPENDNS Service instead of google and are DNS for OPENDNS.

Reset windows 8 password without any thirdparty software

Many of you just reinstall windows 8 if you forgot the password. But do you know, you can simply reset the password without any thirdparty software or tool . All you have to need is either a windows 8 setup disc/USB or a windows 8 recovery disc. We can simply reset any windows 8 password in just minutes. .

Method 1
Using recovery disc

1- You need a Windows 8 PC to make a System Recovery Disk .

2- You need a CD Burner + Blank CD.

3- If you have a tablet or a netbook and you don’t have a CD burner then You need a 512 MB USB thumb drive to make a System Recovery USB instead.

4- To make a system recovery CD, Go to control panel and navigate to Windows 7 File Recovery, click on that icon, and
from the next screen choose from the top left ( Create a System Recovery Disk ) and follow the on-screen instructions to make
that CD.

5- To make a System Recovery USB thumb drive go to control panel and navigate to ( Recovery ), click on that icon and from
the next screen choose ( Create a recovery drive ) and follow the instructions to make a bootable System Recovery USB.

6- When you are ready, boot the locked PC that needs to be unlocked with that CD or USB you just made, and follow the
pictures below :

7- The command prompt screen will open, type : diskpart and hit Enter key

8- Type :  list vol and hit Enter key (watch for spaces)

10- Type : Exit and hit Enter key.

11- Type:  c:   and hit Enter key  (your Windows drive maybe different so change it accordingly to the drive letter you have)

12- Type: cd windows (watch for spaces ) and hit Enter key

13- Type: cd system32 (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key

14- Type: copy  cmd.exe cmd.exe.original (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key.

15- Type: copy Utilman.exe Utilman.exe.original (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key.

16- Type: del Utilman.exe  (watch for spaces)  and hit Enter key.

17- Type: ren cmd.exe Utilman.exe  (watch for spaces)  and hit Enter key.

18- Type: Shutdown  -r  -t  00 (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key, the PC will restart.

19 – When you reach the Logon screen click on the Ease of Access Center icon on the left bottom side of the screen.

20 – The command prompt window will open

21- Type: net user  (watch for spaces)  and hit Enter key.

22- Type: net user  Mymobily *  ( replace mymobily with the name you find in your pc)  and hit Enter key

23- now type the new password you want and hit Enter key( when you type the cursor will not move and you will not see what you
type, so be carefull what you type, because you are typing blindly the new password)
24- confirm the new password when prompted and hit Enter key when done:

25- Type exit and hit the Enter key to close the command window.

26- Logon now to the locked account with the new password you just created.
27- After successfully unlocking  your account and resetting the account password now you need to roll back the changes you
made to Utilman.exe and cmd.exe, so go ahead and boot your pc with the System Recovery CD or USB you made earlier in this
tutorial and repeat steps in # 6 so you open the command prompt window :
28- Type: c: and hit Enter key(your Windows drive maybe different so change it accordingly to the drive letter you have)
29- Type:  cd windows  (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key
30- Type:  cd system32 (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key
31- Type:  del  Utilman.exe  (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key
32- Type: ren  Utilman.exe.original Utilman.exe  (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key
33- Type: ren cmd.exe.original cmd.exe  (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key
34- Type: shutdown  -r  -t  00  (watch for spaces) and hit Enter key to reboot your pc

35- Now when the pc reboots and reaches the logon screen, check to see if the Utilman is fixed and returned back to place by
clicking on its icon on the bottom left side of the screen, if the Ease of Access list pops up then you succeeded in your work.
See picture below.

Using Windows 8 Setup image/DVD

1. Burn your image as either bootable usb using tools like uneetbootin or burn to a DVD

2.when you reach the first screen where you have to click next – stop there and hit SHIFT key + F 10 , the command prompt window
will pop up and you can use it as we did in steps 7 onward to the end. see picture below

Test your Antivirus with EICAR Test

All of you must be having an antivirus installed with your system or some firewall tools for protection. But how can be sure your defenses are actually working as well as you think they are?

Test Your Antivirus

No, I am not going to recommend downloading a virus to test your antivirus program – that’s not a good practice to play . Using real viruses for testing in the real world is rather like setting fire to the dustbin in your office to see whether the smoke detector is working. Such a test will give meaningful results, but with unappealing, unacceptable risks. If you ever want to test your antivirus software, you can use the EICAR test file. The EICAR test file isn’t an actual virus – it’s just a text file containing a string of harmless code that prints the text “EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!” if you run it in DOS. However, antivirus programs are all trained to recognize the EICAR file as a virus and respond to it just as they would respond to an actual virus.

You can download an EICAR test file from the EICAR website. However, you could also create your own EICAR test file by opening a text editor (such as Notepad), copy-pasting the following text into the file, and then saving it:

About the EICAR Script

The first 68 characters is the known string. It may be optionally appended by any combination of whitespace characters with the total file length not exceeding 128 characters. The only whitespace characters allowed are the space character, tab, LF, CR, CTRL-Z. To keep things simple the file uses only upper case letters, digits and punctuation marks, and does not include spaces. The only thing to watch out for when typing in the test file is that the third character is the capital letter “O”, not the digit zero.

Your antivirus program should react as though you had just created an actual virus.

If you are aware of people who are looking for real viruses “for test purposes”, bring the test file to their attention.

Increase Android Phone’s Internal Memory with Link2SD

Most of the economic Android phones come with an internal storage of about 250-400 MB which results in low memory error if you install handful of applications. Fortunately, there is a possible way to increase the internal storage of your Android phone if you are ready to root your phone.

Before you begin

I know that many of you guys are thinking, wat’s new in this??
There are many apps can perform this action/function.Yes there are many apps-like apps to sd, push 2 sd.
But they can’t perform the action fully. They cant move the userdata of any app to sdcard.
so it get stored in system, which leads to sortage in memory.

How it Works?

You can’t obviously increase your internal memory literally. But you can allow your Android to use some of your SD card’s storage to use as internal memory to install applications and games directly. This helps you keep your phone running at an excellent condition as well as let you install as many games and apps as you wish.

To take advantage of this trick, we’re gonna need two things:

  • A rooted Android phone;
  • Link2SD application

  • First of all, download download MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition and connect your memory card using a card reader or through data storage mode.
  • Dont forgot to take a complete backup of your SD card since the process will erase it completely.
  • Run Minitool and note the drive letter of your SD card. Select your SD card from the listing and delete it.

  • Now select “Create as” on that drive letter.
  • Select “Primary”.
  • If the size is less than 2GB, select file system FAT. If it’s more than 2GB, select FAT32.
  • Do not select the whole card as partition size. Turn the slider to the left and leave some space on “unallocated space”. This will be the second “EXT” partition of your SD card.
  • Now, choose the unallocated space again and select Create as -> Primary.
  • Now, choose EXT2 file system. You can let the whole space take over in this step.

Now, click OK and then click the Apply button from the top left of the window. It might take some time for the operation to finish.

Once done, restore the data to your SD card. On Windows, you will always get connected to the first partition of your SD card because Windows does not recognize ext2 file system which is the second partition of your SD card for installing apps and games.

On Linux, though, make sure to restore your data to the drive that is significantly larger. Because your second partition is always the smaller one and you don’t want to fill up your second partition with media files!

At this point, you have just finished partitioning your SD card. Congratulations! Now you just need to configure Link2SD to connect to this second partition and link apps and games.

Configuring Link2SD

Now is the time to download and install Link2SD application from Google Play on your Android phone. Once installed, run the application. You may see a screen asking for Superuser Permission (root permission) the first time you run it. Make sure to select “Remember” and press Allow/Grant.

Note that if you don’t see this prompt, your phone is probably not rooted. In that case, you have to Google on how to root your phone! Without root permission, this will not work.

On successful launch after gaining root permission. Link2SD will ask you to select the file system of your second permission. We remember we set it as ext2. So, ext2 it is.

Upon OK-ing, your device will need to be restarted.

Upon restarting your phone, open Link2SD again and a dialogue will show up. Press OK and click the icon you see on the screenshot below. Choose On Internal. This will show up a list of apps and games installed on the internal storage of your phone.

Now select options and choose multi-select. Then press the select all button. All of these apps will be selected.

Now, click Actions and then choose Create link.

Check all three boxes and touch OK.

Link2SD will now take a little time to move all these apps and games (except system files) and create a link with them from the second partition of your SD card. Touch OK when done.

Almost done! Now, to make sure that every time you download something, it gets auto-linked to the second partition, do the following:

Go to settings from Menu.

Check all three checkboxe and you’re done. You’ll no longer have to worry about the ridiculously low internal storage on your Android device.

To see the storage status of your second partition, you can always go to storage info within Link2SD application.

Things to be checked

  • Buy a good, fast (Class 4 or faster) microSD card– preferably a fairly big one since you’ll use about 512MB to 1GB of it as internal memory, thereby decreasing the amount of memory on your SD card for things like music, photos, videos, documents, etc. It is very likely that the stock card that came with your phone is too slow to use as “internal memory” (and perhaps too small anyway). . If you don’t see a speed grade “Class X” logo on your microSD card, then it’s a slower speed card.
  • Now that your SD card has been linked as internal storage, remember never to take out your SD card because that way, a lot — if not all — apps will stop working immediately.
  • You can also choose ext3, ext4 or even FAT as file system on your second partition. However, ext2 works faster on Link2SD than any other file system.

What is Rooting? Why and Why Not You Should Root & its Advantages and Disadvantages

From time to time while talking about Android apps and tips, you’ll hear the word “rooting” or “root”. It’s virtually everywhere wherever you go for some advanced Android tutorials or stuff. Many new Android users find themselves truly confused about what rooting actually is, how it works, what benefit it has and what disadvantages it comes with.

So, What is Root?

Root is basically a permission. Linux users know it very well. It’s more like the “Administrator” role on Windows computer. With Administrator privilege on a Windows computer, you can virtually do anything and everything (and that includes messing your system files up causing your system to break down). The same level of permission in Linux is called Root. A user, also known as super user, who has access to the core Linux files and the Linux partition (also known as root partition) on the hard drive is called root.

Well, the role is called “root”. But nowadays, it’s more common to call everyone a “root” user who has a root-level permission.

Linux & Android

To all Linux haters out there, you may be wondering why I brought up Linux while I was supposed to talk about Android. Well, the Android operating system itself is built upon Linux kernel. The most popular operating systems on Linux kernel are called Ubuntu, LinuxMint, Fedora, etc. They are operating systems based on Linux kernel; they aren’t Linux operating systems.

Linux is the name of a kernel, on which a operating system sits. Android is an operating system targeted for mobile and tablet devices.

So, that’s the link. The root level permission in Linux-based operating systems give users access to everything in the system files. In the same way, the root level permission in [Linux-based operating system] Android gives user the permission and access to do anything and everything with their device. And that’s what root is.

If you root your device, you become it’s God. You control it. You ask it do anything you want it to do. Even if that means burning to death (too much overclocking, coming to it in a bit).

Why Androids Aren’t Rooted by Default

At this point, you may be wondering that why the hell is your device not rooted by default? You spent bucks buying that little piece of device and you got to own it. Well, let’s put it another way that makes rather good sense.

Imagine a not so tech-savvy guy wants to clear his device’s internal memory. Now, he decides to move all files from internal memory to SD card and that includes all the system files as well. Generally, because he’s not a tech guy, he wouldn’t know what should not be moved. He will cut and paste all the files from root folder to SD card, and his device will brick, refusing to work as it should.

As you can see, device manufacturers don’t really know if their customers are tech-savvy or not. They want to make sure that the consumer gets maximum level of performance. So, they lock down the root access so that hells don’t break loose.

I hope now you understand why device manufacturers don’t take the risk of providing rooted device by default. But almost all Android devices can be rooted. Some manufacturers, such as Sony, provide rooting tutorial on their website. So, they support it, but won’t provide it by default for good reason.

Why Root Your Device?

Why you should root your device depends on what you really want. Some people want to overclock and maximize their performance. Some want to underclock and increase battery life. Some people root just to install custom ROMs and change their device’s look and feel entirely. And some other people root just for the sake of rooting for their phones.

I rooted at first just for the sake of rooting. But now I’m enjoying the benefits of it.

Let’s find out the benefits of rooting.

Advantages of Rooting

  • Improve performance: Some system applications that improve the device’s overall performance require rooted device to work properly.
  • Overclock: Increase the CPU speed to get maximum possible performance while playing HD games or multitasking.
  • Underclock: Minimize CPU usage while the phone is idle to maximize the battery backup.
  • Custom ROM: Ability to install custom ROMs developed by independent developers from around the world.

Disadvantages of Rooting

  • Lose Warranty: Rooting your device will void your warranty immediately with most manufacturers. There are also ways to unroot your device in most cases which can bring the value back to your warranty card.
  • Brick your phone: If something goes terribly wrong, you’ll end up with a dead phone which is also known as bricked phone. Most bricked phones can be unbricked. However, if the issue was related to hardware, such as overheating and burning issue due to extreme overclocking, that situation is called hard brick and you may never be able to use your phone again. But this is a rare case.

How to Root Your Device?

There are endless devices on the market today. Each devices don’t have the same way for rooting. The best place to search for a rooting tutorial for your device is XDA Forums where senior ROM developers meet general consumers. No matter what device you’re using, there will be tons of tutorials for you to follow along there.

So, tell me, are you clear about what rooting is? Do you think you’re gonna be rooting your phone anytime? Let me know at least, so that I know whether my article helped you or not.
